Documentation Flashcards
What documents are required to be on board for every flight?
A - Airworthiness Certificate R - Registration Certificate R - Radio License O - Pilot Operating Handbook W - Weight and Balance
J - Journey Log Book
L - Crew Licenses
I - Insurance
How long is the Certificate of Airworthiness valid?
Valid indefinitely providing aircraft is maintained in accordance with requirements of the controlling agency.
What invalidates the Certificate of Airworthiness?
G - Gross weight, exceeding L - Limitations, POH E - Equipment, POH required items A - Airworthiness Directives M - Maintenance inspections S - Snags
What type of inspection schedule is the aircraft on?
Refer to Journey Log Book or consult an AME.
Using the Journey Log, prove the aircraft is airworthy
- Check current air time against next inspection time
- Check if compass was swung within past year
- Check if ELT was certified with the past year
- Ensure no ‘snags’ are noted
If a defect or snag is recorded in the Journey Log, is the aircraft airworthy?
No, not until an AME inspects the aircraft and signs off.
Which documents lists the owner and purpose of the aircraft?
The Certificate of Registration.
Do amateur built aircraft have a Certificate of Airworthiness?
No, they are issued a Flight Permit instead.
How long is the Certificate of Registration valid?
Valid indefinitely, as long as the ownership of the aircraft does not change or the owner’s address.
How long does the owner of an aircraft have to notify Transport Canada of an address change?
7 days.
What is the procedure with respect to the Certificate of Registration when the aircraft is sold?
Registration must be filled out and and mailed to Transport Canada within 7 days.
How long is a Radio Station License valid for?
Valid until March 31st annually and must be renewed before April 1st.
What is the difference between the Radio Station License and the Radio Operator’s License?
The radio station license allows the aircraft to act as a radio station, transmitting on the FM wavelength. The radio license allows the holder to legally operate the radio, is valid for life.
Why is it important to have the POH on board the aircraft?
The POH (Pilot Operating Handbook) has all pertinent information for the aircraft, allows the pilot to research any information that might be needed while operating the aircraft.
How does the weight and balance info in the POH and the weight and balance reports for particular aircraft differ?
The weight and balance in the POH is a generic example for aircraft type, whereas the weight and balance report is specific to each aircraft of that type.
Define Basic Empty Weight
- Weight of Standard Airplane
- Full Oil
- Unusable Fuel
- Optional Equipment
Define Maximum Take-off Weight
Maximum weight approved for take-off run.
Does the Weight and Balance report have to be on board for every flight?
Yes.
What is the difference between Normal and Utility categories?
In the Utility category the aircraft can perform certain flight maneuvers which cannot be performed in the Normal category per the POH.
How will a forward Center of Gravity affect the aircraft?
Would reduce cruise performance but provide safer stall recovery characteristics.
