Icosahedral
and
DNA Naked Virus
double stranded DNA with single stranded region
causes diseases related to liver
Hepadnaviridae
Genus: Orthohepadnavirus
causes Hepatitis B
with DANE particle (virion)
* HBsAg – surface antigen –outer membrane
* HBcAg – core antigen – surrounds the DNA
* HBeAg – components of the core antigen
Hepatitis B Virus
surface antigen –outer membrane
HBsAg
core antigen – surrounds the DNA
HBcAg
components of the core antigen
HBeAg
Modes of Transmission:
* Sexual contact
* Blood transfusion
* Inoculation of
contaminated secretions
Hepatitis B Virus
HBV Serological Markers
- HBsAg – present in acute & chronic infection
- Anti-HBs – indicates recovery or immunity
- Anti-HBc IgM – present in acute (<6 months) infection
- Anti-HBc – previous or ongoing infection
- HBeAg – virus is replicating/ high levels
- Anti-HBe – indicates lower level of HBV
Double stranded DNA
Causes lytic infection and latent infection
Remain in WBC & peripheral nerves
Replicate in nucleus
HERPESVIRIDAE
Genus: Simplexvirus
causes
* Oral Herpes – Gingivostomatitis
* HSV Encephalitis (adult)
* Ocular Herpes – Keratoconjunctivitis
Herpes-Simplex Virus 1
Genus: Simplexvirus
causes
* Genital Herpes
* Neonatal Herpes
* HSV Encephalitis (neonates)
Herpes-Simplex Virus 2
