Dna Virus Drugs Flashcards
Acyclovir famicylovir and valcylcovir MOA
Guanosin analog,
Phosphorylated by infected cells via thymidine kinase and inhibit viral DNA polymerase by chain termination
Only used in HSV1 HSV2 VZV
Acyclovir and others not used in CMV why
CMV does not contain thymidine kinase
Side effects of acyclovir
Obstructive Crystalline nephropathy
Mechanism of resistance to acyclovir and others
Mutation of thymidine kinase
Gancyclovir moa
Phosphorylated by viral kinase and inhibits DNA polymerase
Gancyclovir side defects
Nephrotixicity and myelosuppression - anemia neutropenia thrombocytopenia
Used in CMV infections
How is valcyclovir better than Gancyclovir
Has better oral bioavailability
Foscarnet MOA
Viral DNA/Rna polymerase inhibitor
And HIV reverse transcriptase inhibitor
Uses of foscarnet
Used in CMV and HSV1&2 and VZV if resistant to previous drugs
Side effects of foscarnet
Nephrotoxicity
Cidofovir moa
Same as foscarnet
Side effect of cidofovir
Nephrotoxicity
Uses of cidofovir
CMV retinitis in immunocompromised individuals and acyclovir resistant HSV
