dna sequencing and bioinformatics Flashcards
1
Q
Creating SCAFFOLDS is often required for: A de novo genome sequencing B exome sequencing (whole exon) C genome re-sequencing D RNA-sequencing
A
option A - denovo
scaffolds from PacBio or nanopore are useful as they have longer reads than those generated by illumina so they overcome the issue of repeat sequences
but i guess you can also use scaffolds in genome re- sequencing. instead you use the reference genome as the scaffold (so you haven’t actually created scaffold)

Q
Which DNA sequencing platform would be most appropriate for analysing the molecules created as part of an RESEQUENCING experiment? A Illumina. B Nanopore. C PacBio. D Sanger.
A
illumina as we get short accurate reads and lots of them too. Could use nanopore but would be more expensive
