DNA, RNA & Protein Synthesis Flashcards
Definition of Transcription
The process of making messenger RNA from a DNA template
Definition of Translation
Formation of protein, at ribosomes, by assembling amino acids into a particular sequence according to the coded instruction carried from DNA to the ribosomes by mRNA
What is RNA?
its a single polynucleotide strand and it contains U which is paired with A during protein synthesis
Where is RNA made?
In the nucleus during Transcription
Role of mRNA during translation
it carries the genetic code from the DNA in the nucleus to the cytoplasm, where its used to make a protein during translation
in mRNA what are the groups of three adjacent bases called?
Codons
What is tRNA
its a single polynucleotide strand thats folded into a clover shape
What holds the tRNA molecule in its shape?
The hydrogen bonds between specific base pairs
What does every tRNA molecule have?
> a specific sequence of three bases at one end called anticodon
a binding site at the other end
Where is tRNA found?
its found in the cytoplasm where its involved in translation. It carries the amino acids that are used to make proteins to the ribosones
