DNA Replication Flashcards
1
Q
what is semi-conservative replication
A
when one strand from an existing DNA molecule is used as a template to bond with another new nucleotide
2
Q
outline steps of semi-conservative replication
A
- DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between two DNA polynucleotides forming two polynucleotide strands
- free floating nucleotides in the nucleus align with the polynucleotide due to complementary base pairing
- DNA Polymerase will form phosphodiester bonds between the adjacent nucleotides which forms a new nucleotide
- the new nucleotide will bond with the existing one forming a DNA double helix
