DNA Replication Flashcards
What happens before cells divide?
All DNA must replicate to provide a copy for the new cell.
the process of DNA replication is semi conservative replication(one strand from parental, one newly synthesised)
What is involved in semi conservative replication?
Complementary base pairs
-A-T
-C-G
enzymes
-DNA helicase
-DNA polymerase
Step one of semi conservative replication?
DNA helicase breaks h-bonds between comp base pairs between 2 strands
This causes the double helix to unwind
Step 2 of semi conservative replication?
Each sep strand acts as a template
Enables comp DNA nucleotides to attract to their base pair on the template strand
Step 3 of semi conservative replication?
Adjacent nucleotides by condensation reaction to form phosphodiester bonds
DNA polymerase catalyses this joining of nucleotides
Step 4 of semiconservative replication?
2 sets of daughter DNA contains one strand of the parental DNA and one newly synthesised
Step 4 of semiconservative replication?
2 sets of daughter DNA contains one strand of the parental DNA and one newly synthesised
