DNA Replication Flashcards
Describe the process of DNA replication.
DNA unwinds and unzips exposing the bases of DNA. Each strand acts as a template for the synthesis of a new complementary strand. This in each new DNA molecules produced, one strand is pre-existing (conserved) and the other is newly synthesised – hence semi-conservative replication.
Why is the replication of a DNA molecule termed semi-conservative?

State why DNA needs to be replicated prior to cell division.
So that each of the two daughter cells receive an identical copy of the DNA to the parent cell.
