Q

Briefly cover how microarrays are produced

A

Pins deposit probes on silicon chips that are fluorescently labelledwhere the sample DNA/Mrna/ protein will hybridize to it, if that specific sequence is present and will emit fluorescence when excited with specific wavelength of lasers, it captured and quantified.

Q

highlight the some of the capabilities and problems associated with MAs

A

+: Can detect a large number of genes at the same time. Can analyze mRNA, proteins,
Automated, high throughput
-: Not vary good in detecting small changes or chromatin changes, has to have a good sample
Has to be supported with other data, can’t make conclusions based off it
