2-20s latency, associated vertigo, adapts to position, fatigues on repeat testing
Jerk nystagmus-central
no latency, variable vertigo, no adaptation, little fatigue
Diagnostic tests for vertigo
blood tests, ekg, eeg, baer, tilt table, dix-hallpike
What is menier syndrome
A peripheral vestibular disorder with vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss
Benign Positional vertigo
positional vertigo associated with nystagmus on head movement. free floating particles in posterior labyrinth.
Signs/symptoms of central vestibular disorders
vertigo at rest or worse with positional change. no latency. brainstem dysfunction
signs/symptoms in peripheral vestibular disorders
vertigo w/ head position change. latency, short duration, habituation. jerk nystagmus. otologic symptoms including hearing loss, tinnitus, otalgia
Treatments
antihistamines, benzodiazepines, phenothiazines, scopolamine
