Behavior Flashcards
disruption of papez circuit causes
amnesia
what lobe is important for metamemory
dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. has executive control over memory apparatus.
role of parietal lobe
cortical sensation praxis (dominant lobe) spatial orientation (non dominant lobe)
role of nondominant parietal lobe
neglect ( Lesion in R leads to neglect L side)
anosagnosia
dressing apraxia
visuo spatial disorientation
role of frontal lobe
broca's speech center (dominant side) executive function (bilateral) attention/social cognition (bilateral)
define prosopagnosia
Master splinter. associated with bilateral inferior occipito temporal lesions affecting both fusiform gyri.
role of temporal lobe
wernicke’s-dominant
new verbal memory-medial temporal lobe left
new visual memory-medial temporal lobe right
semantic memory-lateral temporal
face/object recognition-posterior
emotional processing-amygdala
alzheimer’s clinical presentation
primary complaint is formation of new memories. problems with visuospatial abilities, naming and semantic memories.
MCI criteria
change in cognition in comparison with previous level
MCI vs Dementia
difference rests on determination as to wheter or not there is significant interference in ability to function at work in in usual ADLs
cortical dementia–frontotemporal dementia
highly underdiagnosed. primary complaints include behavioral changes, impaired speech and dysexecutive syndrome
subtypes of frontotemporal dementia
frontotemporal dementia-behavioral variant
primary progressive aphasia–broca’s like
semantic dementia–wernicke’s like
subcortical dementia
slowed psychomotor speed, memory loss and executive dysfunction
associated with basal ganglia disease, demyelinating disease or vascular events.
features of dementia with lewy bodies
dysexecutive syndrome. visual hallucinations, fluctuating cognition with pronounced variations in attention and alertness. Parkinsonism.
treatment of dementia
Achase inhibitors. not recommended with FTD
