What is unconscious bias
A subconscious bias which informs your perceptions of individuals and groups.
Why is it important to have a diverse environment?
Different range of views and opinions and ensures team is aligned to a greater variety of clients
What are your firm’s policies in relation to diversity?
Promote unrepresented groups across the business, real for women, faith room in the new floor of our HQ, celebrate Black History month, Eid Mubarak, and Hanukah.
What is the RICS doing to increase diversity in the industry?
Launching a series of initiatives to support groups of underrepresented people e.g. RICS working with the Black Property Network and DiverseCity, they also have reverse mentoring programmes and attend university career fairs at a range of universities
When have you experienced an unconscious bias?
I have not experienced unconscious bias but I am aware of it and an example might be that I think younger people are better at using technology than older employees
What is the difference between direct and indirect discrimination?
Direct discrimination is when an individual is discriminated against based on a specific characteristic whereas indirect discrimination is when a group of people with a protected characteristic are discriminated against
Why is teamworking important?
Cross-selling / identifying new opportunities, sociable industry and increases efficiency in work and meeting client needs
How could your organisation improve diversity in the workplace?
Recruit from more diverse talent pool e.g. non-cognate students
