Distribution of lung tissue Flashcards
What are requirement of lung tissue?’
Air is delivered to the alveoli by dividing passages that wont collapse during exhalation, are flexible to allow movement and stretches and recoils when inhaling
Where are ciliated epithelium cells present?
In the trachea, bronchi and bronchioles
Where are goblet cells present?
In trachea, bronchi and bronchioles
Where is cartilage present?
In the trachea and bronchi
Where is smooth muscle present?
Trachea, bronchi and bronchioles
Where are elastic fibres present?
Trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli
Where are squamous epithelium cells found?
In alveoli and capillaries
Where are capillaries found?
Trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli
What are the types of tissues in the lungs?
Ciliated epithelium, goblet cells, cartilage, smooth muscle, elastic fibres, squamous epithelium and capillaries
What is the function of ciliated epithelium cells?
They move mucous up in the airways out of the lungs
What is the function of goblet cells?
To secrete mucous
What is the function of cartilage?
Horseshoe shapes that hold airways open to allow easy flow of air
What is the function of smooth muscle?
It contracts to narrow airways
What is the function of elastic fibres?
They stretch when breathing in, recoil when breathing out and help force air out of the lungs
What is the function of squamous epithelium?
Thin to give short diffusion pathway for gaseous exchange and provide a large SA
