Dissociative Disorder
severe alterations on detachments in identity, memory, or consciousness including depersonalization and derealization
Depersonalization/derealization disorder
persistent, recurrent and severe/frightening feelings of unreality and detachment
-Typically occurs after a trauma (giving birth, assault)
Depersonalization
A state in which one’s thoughts and feelings seem unreal or not belonging to ones sense of identity
- Perceptual alterations
- Distorted sense of time
- Unreal/absent self
- Emotional/physical numbing
Derealization
A feelings that ones surroundings are not real
- Experiences of unreality
- Dreamlike state
- Visual distortions
- Foggy world
Generalized amnesia
Unable to remember anything about themselves, including their name, where they are, etc.
-6 months-1 year-Lifelong
Localized Amnesia
Failure to recall specific events, usually around a trauma
Dissociative Fugue
- “Flight”
- Memory loss revolves around a specific incident/unexpected trip
Running Amok
- Associated with brutality
- Runs or flees
- More prevalent in WOMEN
Dissociative Trance Disorder
-Only when the trance is undesirable does it become a disorder, as stated by the culture
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
-Amnesia associated with certain aspects of personality
DID Symptoms
-Adoption of several identities or alters
-2-100 alters, average 15
-Host

DID causes
- Associated with childhood abuse/trauma (+lack of social support)
- Volume differences in amygdala and hippocampus
DID Corbidity
-Anxiety, substance abuse, MDD
DID Course
Life long/chronic
