stimulants + behavior modification

What is the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder?

A

social communication/interaction deficits PLUS ≥ 2 restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests or activities

Social (all):
* Deficits in social-emotional reciprocity
* Nonverbal communication behaviors
* Developing, maintaining, & understanding relationships

Behavioral (≥ 2):
* Stereotyped or repetitive motor movements, use of objects, or speech
* Insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, or ritualized patterns of verbal or nonverbal behavior
* Highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus
* Hyper- or hyporeactivity to sensory input or unusual interest in sensory aspects of the environment

Sx must be present in the early developmental period & cause significant impairment

A

A
  • Aggression towards people, animals, & property, deceit & rule violation
  • Often seen as the precursor to antisocial personality disorder
  • MUST BE UNDER 18

A

persistent violation of basic rights of others or social norms PLUS ≥3 sxs w/in 12 mo AND ≥1 sx in last 6 mo
* Aggression to people/animals
* Destruction of property
* Deceitfulness or theft
* Serious rule violation

if ≥18 y/o, criteria not met for Antisocial Personality Disorder

What is oppositional defiant disorder?

A
  • MC in boys, more susceptible in kids w/ mood disorders, conduct disorder, & ADHD
  • Unlike conduct disorder, children w/ ODD are not aggressive towards people/animals, dont destroy property, & dont show a pattern of theft or deceit

What is the diagnostic criteria for oppositional defiant disorder?

A

≥4 sxs occurring w/ ≥1 non-sibling in ≥6 months
* Angry/irritable mood: often loses temper, is touchy or easily annoyed, or is often angry & resentful.
* Argumentative/defiant behavior: breaks rules, blames others, argues w/ authority figures, deliberately annoys others
* Vindictive: has been spiteful/vindictive ≥2x in past 6mo
