Diseases of the thoracic cavity in dogs and cats Flashcards
Inspiratory dyspnea with delayed expiration, extended neck, tachypnea, open mouth breathing, cyanosis. Percussion: horizontal dullness, air-containing triangle
Auscultation: bronchial sounds above fluid, zero sound beneath fluid
Pleural effusion = build ip of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura
Causes of pleural effusion
Cardiac or pericardial disease, diaphragmatic hernia, FIP, heartworm, lung lobe torsion, pancreatitis, thoracic duct rupture or idiopathic
Acute inspiratory obstructive dyspnea with tachypnea, decreased dorsal lung sounds, decreased heart and respiratory sounds, hypoxemia and cyanosis
Pneumothorax = air accumulation in the pleural space
Mixed/inspiratory type dyspnea, shock, stomach distention, cyanosis, arrythmia. Percussion: dullness and auscultation: asymmetric respiratory sounds
Diaphragmatic hernia = abnormal opening in the diaphragm, abdominal content enter the thoracix cavity
