diseases and bacteria association Flashcards
What causes food poison?
Staph aureus and B. Cereus heat stable (ST) toxins for short duration
Which bacteria cause TSS?
TSST-1 of Staph aureus and exotoxin A of strep Pyogene group A
What causes acute endocarditis?
Staph aureus’s cytolytic toxin (lecithinase) (gold medal in eating fast)
What causes subacute endocarditis?
Strep viridans group through dextran adherence to damaged heart valves (slow VIRIdan [green foliage] eating) and by GROUP D Strep faecalis
What causes meningitis in neonates? In adults?
Strep agalactiae, Listeria monocytogenes and E. Coli
In adults: Strep pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitides and H. influenza
What cause rheumatic fever?
Strep pyogene secondary to untreated pharyngitis that results in myocarditis
What causes acute glumerulonephritis?
Strep pyogene secondary to untreated pharyngitis or skin infection
Which cause bloody diarrhea?
Enterohemorrhagic E. Coli, Shigella dysenteriae, and Salmonella
What cause myonecrosis ?
Clostridium perfingens alpha toxin which hydrolyses lecithin
Which have long acting diarrhea?
Heat labile (LT) of E. coli and B. cereus as well as vibrio Cholerae
Which can cause catheter infections?
Staph epidermis and Strep mutan (viridan group)
Which cause UTI?
Staph saprophyticus and Strep faecalis after GU surgery
Which cause skin infection like impetigo?
Staph aerus and strep pyogenes
If pt has damaged heart valves, which bacteria would you concerned with and under what conditions? Is there anything that can be done about it?
If doing a GU/GI manipulation be concerned with Strep faecalis
If doing dental work be concerned with Strep viridans
Give prophylactic PCN and gentamicin for S. faecalis and PCN for Strep viridans
Which is the common cause of pneumonia ?
Strep Pneumoniae
