What does endemic mean vs epidemic?
Endemic is constantly present in a population but only recognisable in a few, epidemic is infrequently present in population
What are the phases of infectious disease?
Incubation- time between infection and symptoms
Prodromal phase- mild signs
Clinical phase- typical symptoms
Decline phase- symptoms subside
Recovery- symptoms disappear

Production of enzymes and destruction of host cells
What are exotoxins?
Produced by gram positive bacteria during metabolism
Used to create vaccines (toxoids)
What are endotoxins
Produced by gram negative bacteria, less toxic than exotoxins
Cannot be used in vaccines
