Moisten adhesive tapes around the iv catheter with cotton ball with alcohol and remove the plaster gently

Us forcep to pick up cottonball with alcohol and without applying pressure, remove the needle or iv catheter then immediately apply pressure over the venipuncture site.

Inspect the completeness of the catheter

Place dressing over the venipuncture site

Discard waste materials including the cannula
Reassure the patient

Document time of discontinuation, status of insertion site, integrity of the catheter and endorse accordingly.
