A

I will teach you to catch people = he will teach them how to bring people to god
They dropped everything to follow Jesus
Silmon became known as peter, meaning rock - he would become Jesus closest disciple
Tax haters where hated for being dishonest and because they worked for the roman
A Jew associating with an outcast would be unclean
Jesus was more concerned with the outcasts than keeping religious duties

They would learn from him and carry his work
The numbered 12 re[resented the 12 tribes of Ireland in Jewish scripture

Significance of the challenge of witnessing

A

The people of Nazareth didnt recognise the importance of Jesus - they thought of him as a carpenter
Jesus couldn’t carry out many miracles cause of peoples lack of faith
Jesus rejection by his friends and family were a forest set of the rejection he would face at the end of his life

Significance of the mission of the 12

A

It’s an extension of Jesus mission
Two main reasons they were sent out in twos… protection and witnesses
They had to rely on the hospitality of others meaning they had to fully rely on god
Jews would shake the dust of their feet when leaving a gentile area - a serious action
Oil is still used today in some churches

Significance of the cost of being a disciple

A

Being a disciple requires self denial and being willing to face death
Caarrying the cross means that Christian’s should publicly show they submitted to christs authority
Some Christian’s still face death today or may be simply mocked or lose friends

What are the qualities of a disciple

A

Willing to make sacrifices in life to follow Christ
Willing to listen and understand
Willingness to carry your cross
Patient and determined
Confess their faith and love for Christ
But the needs of others before your own needs
Love and care for your neighbour
Humble
Show faith and trust

What were challenges for the first disciples?

A

Made huge sacrifices eg. Leaving family friends or jobs.
Put their lives at risks eg. Threat of prosecution
Then conjured criticism from the Jewish authorities and Jewish people
They found it difficult to understand the teachings of Jesus
