Disaster Recovery Flashcards
What are some backup strategies improvements?
- More frequent backups
- Storing offsite backups
- Backing up to the cloud
What are the 4 stages of a Disaster Recovery Plan?
Evacuation, Backing up, Data Restoration & Testing
What is the difference between a Full Backup and an Incremental Backup?
Full - backups all files
Incremental - only files which are new or have changed
How do you Test the Disaster Recovery Plan?
Create Dummy Data and it needs to be backed up according to the plan, then it must be deleted and restored to see if it worked.
What are some strategies that a business can use to make sure they have covered ALL aspects of the DRP
- Evacuation = be able to get people to safety
- Backup = Full and Incremental stored offsite
- Restoration = being able to recover every piece of data
- Testing = run with dummy data to simulate whole plan
Why are DRP’s essential in a business?
- Protection against data loss (intentional or unexpected)
- Allows recovery’s to be accessible in unforeseen circumstances
What are the stages of data disposal?
Emptying of recycle bin once deleted
Defrag drive
Destruction of Hard drives and other storage devices
Testing of dummy files to see if it is retraceable
What does a surprise disaster simulation allow companies to do?
To practise the procedures for shutting down the computer system and recover data
When is the documentation of procedures completed in reference to a disaster?
Before the Disaster
What is the difference between an archive and a backup?
A: inactive and rarely altered data that is retained for long extended periods
B: Copies of data stored as recovery in case of corruption
