Directions of Joint Motion Flashcards
A bending movement that decreases the angle between a segment and its proximal segment
Flexion
A straightening movement that increases the angle between a segment and its proximal segment
Extension
Movement away from the midline
Abduction
Movement towards the midline
Adduction
with the elbow flexed at 90 degrees, rotating the palm upward
Supination
with the elbow flexed at 90 degrees, rotating the hand downward
Pronation
Rotating inward, usually referring to the subtalar joint
Inversion
Rotating outward, usually referring to the subtalar joint
Eversion
Turning inward toward the body
Internal rotation
turning outward away from the body
External rotation
Extension at the ankle or wrist joint, bringing the foot or hand closer to the dorsum of the body
Dorsiflexion
Flexing at the ankle or wrist join, bringing the foot or hand closer to the palm of the hand or sole of foot.
