Neuroaxis
through spinal cord up through the brain
Superior/dorsal
When you get toward the spinal cord, the dorsal is toward the back, but top of brain
Inferior/ ventral
Toward the “belly” or bottom of brain
Anterior/rostral
Is front
Posterior/ caudal
Toward the tail or back of brain
Medial/ lateral
medial is toward the middle, lateral is toward the sides
Ipsilateral
Same side of brain
Contralateral
Opposite side of brain
Afferent/efferent
Afferant is projections going toward something, efferent is going away from something.
Brain slices: Traverse/frontal/coronal
If you’re looking at the brain from the front, it’s called a coronal/ frontal (cut down the middle, looking dead on, it’s traverse
Brain slices: Horizontal
horizontal cut through middle
Brain slices: Sagittal
If you’re looking at the side, it’s called sagittal (cut down the idle or more one side or the other)
