Sagittal plane
midsagittal plane(median plane)
parasagittal plane
divides left and right
-midsagittal- midline of the body
parasagittal- parallel to the sagittal
coronal
anterior
posterior
divides front and back
anterior- front of the body
posterior- back of the body
the axial, axial portion
aligned with the middle of the body(head, neck, spine, trunk or torso)
appendicular portion
upper and lower limbs, appendages
Transverse
- superior/cranial
- inferior/caudal
divides top and bottom
superior/cranial- top
inferior(low rank)/caudal- bottom
Medial
lateral
medial- towards the midline
lateral- away from the midline
(midline is sagittal of the body)
proximal
distal
proximal- closer to the trunk or torso
distal- away from the trunk or torso
body cavity
any space that contains the viscera or the fluid which protects the organs
dorsal body cavity
ventral body cavity
dorsal- posterior of the body which houses the cranial cavity and the spinal cavity
ventral- anterior of the body which houses the thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity
