indications?
treatment and prevention of DVT and PE
prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in nonvalular Afib
prevention of DVT/PE after hip surgery
contraindiction?
active bleeding, prosthetic heart valve, hypersensitivity
Common ADR?
dyspepsia, gastritis
Less common ADR?
Bleeding and GERD
Rare but serious ADR?
major bleeding, MI, intracranial hemorrhage
Monitoring?
Efficacy: prevention or recurrence of DVT/PE
Toxicity: S/S of bleeding, evaluate renal fxn, not recommended in nonvalvar heart disease
