Etiology of diphtheria?
A
Organism: corynebacterium diphtheria (gram +ve bacilli producing powerful exotoxin)
Route: droplet infection
IP: 2 to 4 days

- Isolation of

- Respiratory

Ttt of diphtheria?
A
- Cases
a. Isolation and bed rest for 2 weeks
b. Diphtheria antitoxin
c. Antibiotics erythromyacin/ penicillin G for 14 days
d. After recovery ( throat culture, vaccination) - Contacts
- Prevention

Prognonsis of diphtheria?
A
- Myocarditis and neuropathy is slow but complete
2. Mortality rate it around 5 to 25% mainly due to myocarditis and respiratory failure
