Digital Radiography Flashcards

1
Q

How does computed radiography work

A

Imaging plate w/in cassette has layer of crystals which store x-ray energy
Cassette inserted into reader
- reads plate w/red laser light
- latent image electrons fluoresce
- light energy converted to digital signal
- sent to computer; displayed by monitor
- image erased; plate re-inserted into cassette

Q

Advantages of computer radiography (over manual and automatic) (10)

A
Lower and shorter exposure
Reduced safety area
Easier to use
Faster processing
Reduced GA/sedation time
Fewer repeated exposures
No chemicals or darkroom
Better image quality
Electronically stored
Can be edited/manipulated/annotated

Q

Advantages of direct radiography (6)

A

Real time image
Highest possible quality
Allows magnification
Max resolution - ID of small anomalies
Good for ortho - can measure slope of TPL
Changes in condition/healing process accurately examined
