Digestion And Enzymes Flashcards
Where are carbohydrates digested?
The mouth, stomach and small intestine
Why are enzymes needed?
Food has to be broken down chemically into small particles, enzymes make this break down happen quickly.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are proteins that break down large molecules into small molecules. Different enzymes break down different nutrients.

Where are proteins digested and what chemical helps?
The stomach and small intestine. Hydrochloride acid in the stomach helps.
Where is fat digested and what chemical helps?
The small intestine and it is helped by bile which is made in the liver.
What cannot be digested?
Minerals, vitamins and water are already small enough to be absorbed.
