Digestion and Circulatory Quiz Flashcards
Protein Denaturation
(hair)
Breaking bonds within protein. They become looser.
From heat or acid
Hormones
Chemical messengers
Enzymes
Aid digestion and other chemical reactions
Hemoglobin
Transport Oxygen
Antibodies
Destroy Pathogens
DNA vs RNA
DNA: double helix structure
RNA: single stranded
mRNA
Messenger
rRNA
Ribosomal
tRNA
Transfer
Digestion 4 Steps
- Ingestion (Ingest)
- Digestion (Digest)
- Absorption
- Egestion (Poo)
Ingestion 4 Types
- Filter feeders. (they take out the small guys while inhaling water)
- Substrate feeders. (bugs eat where they live)
- Fluid feeders. (suck; mosquito)
- Bulk. Literally anything else
Intracellular Vs Extracellular Digestion
Intra: sinple uicell org. food digested in its cavity ex. jelly fish
Extra: absorbed outside the cell, chemical and digestion. anything more than one cell
Physical Digestion
teeth->saliva->tongue->stomach muscles
chemical digestio
enzymes are used, breakdown through hydrolosis (adding water to break down)
Absorption
Nutrients taken in through bloodstream.
Open vs Closed tube
Open one hole, wastes are expelled.
Closed, in through one out the other.
Hydras: Ingest, food source, digestion, absorption, egestion
Ingest: through the mouth
Food: Prey caught with tentacles
Digest: Using enzymes
Absorb: Diffuses into cells
Egestion: Comes out through “mouth”
