digestion Flashcards
1
Q
What are enzymes
A
- bio catalyst
- break down large insoluble molecules —> small soluble molecules
2
Q
Where does (just) amylase work and is made
A
Works and made in the mouth - produced by the salivary glands
3
Q
Where does pepsin work and is made
A
Pepsin works and is made in the stomach
4
Q
Where does amylase, lipase and trypsin work and is made
A
- made in the pancreas (releases/makes most of the enzymes)
- works in the duodenum (small intestine)
5
Q
Where does maltose work and is made
A
Works and made in the ileum (small intestine - releases from the small intestine wall)
6
Q
What does amylase break down
A
Starch —> maltose
Carbohydrase
7
Q
What does maltase break down
A
Maltose —> glucose
glucose = a carbohydrase
8
Q
What does lipase break down
A
Lipids —> glycerol + fatty acids
9
Q
What does trypsin break down
A
Polypeptides —> amino acids
10
Q
What does pepsin break down
A
Protein —> polypeptides
