Diffusion adaptations Flashcards
1
Q
How does surface area affect the rate of diffusion
A
The higher the surface area the faster the rate of diffusion
2
Q
How does temperature affect diffusion
A
The higher the temperature the more kinetic energy the particles have so there is a faster rate of diffusion
3
Q
How does the Concentration gradient affect diffusion
A
The higher concentration increases the concentration gradient so diffusion occurs faster
4
Q
How are the lungs adapted for diffusion
A
- large blood supply to maintain concentration gradient
- lots of alveoli to increase surface area
- thin walls for faster diffusion
5
Q
How are plants adapted for diffusion
A
- roots have large surface area to absorb water
- leaves contain stomata to aid in the evaporation of water from the leaves
6
Q
What are the features that allow efficient gas exchange in organisms
A
- having a large surface area
- a thin membrane to provide a short diffusion path
- efficient blood supply (in animals)
- being ventilates ( humans for gas exchange)
