Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
Define diffusion
A
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration down a concentration gradient
2
Q
In which states does diffusion happen?
A
Liquid
Gas
Particles are able to move whereas in solids they can not
3
Q
What can increase the rate of diffusion?
A
Greater concentration gradient Greater surface area (more particles can pass through membrane at once) Greater temperature (particles move faster as they have more energy)
4
Q
What molecules can pass through the cell membrane?
A
Only small molecules like oxygen, amino acids, glucose, water, carbon dioxide
