Diffusion Flashcards
What two things does diffusion happen in?
In both solutions and gases because the particles in these substances are free to move about randomly.
What is the simplest type of diffusion?
The simplest type is when gases diffuse into each other, this is what happens when a smell diffuses through the air in a room.
How is the rate of diffusion affected by a difference in concentration?
The bigger the difference, the faster the rate of diffusion.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What is special about the cell membrane in terms of diffusion?
They are special because they hold the cell together but they let things in and out as well, dissolved substances can move in and out of the cell by diffusion.
