Biology 2a Cells Organs and Populations Flashcards
What is the difference between an animal cell and a plant cell?
Animal and plant cells are similar but plant cells have a cell wall, a permanent vacuole and chloroplasts. (Photosynthesis)
What does the nucleus do?
It contains the genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
What does the cytoplasm do?
It is a gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It has enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What are all living things made of?
Cells.
What is the cell membrane?
The cell membrane holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What are mitochondria?
These are where most of the reactions for respiration take place, respiration releases energy that the cells need to work.
What are ribosomes?
These are where proteins are made in the cell.
What type of organism is yeast?
It is a single felled organism.
What does yeast contain?
A nucleus, cytoplasm, and a cell membrane surrounded by a cell wall.
What do bacterial cells not have?
A nucleus.
A bacterial cell has a cytoplasm and a cell membrane surrounded by a cell wall, if there is no nucleus where is the genetic material stored?
The genetic material floats in the cytoplasm.
