Diffusion Flashcards
What are three state of matter ?
There are solid, liquid and gas
What are all matter make up of ?
Particles
What are there between the particles?
There are force attractive and repulsion between particles?
What is atom?
Atom is the smallest particle that cannot be broken down by a chemical reaction.
What is a molecule ?
Molecule is a particle that contain two or atoms.the atom can be the same or different.
What is a solid ?
Arrangement are a regular patterns
Particles are very closed or touching each other
Particles vibrate around in a fixed position but do not move from place to place
Attractive force between the particles are strong
What is Liquid ?
Particles irregular - no particle pattern absence of particles are very close or touching each other.
Particles move ( slide ) over each other slowly attractive force between are weaker than a solid and stronger than a gas
What is Gas?
Arrangement particles are irregular patterns of particles.
Far apart particles move everywhere rapidly
There are almost attractive force between particles
What is Diffusion ?
The net movement of of particles form a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration until they are evenly distributed. For diffusion to occur the particles must be in a Liquid or a gas.
What is Osmosis?
Osmosis is called the movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane. From a region of high concentration to a region of Low concentration of water molecules.
What is Sublimation ?
Sublimation is direct change of a solid to a gas on heating .without any liquid state being formed. Also refer to direct change of a gas to a solid on cooling without the liquid state being formed.
Change state
Melting : solid > liquid
Boiling evaporation: liquid > gas
Condensing : gas > liquid
Freezing: Liquid > solid
Energy take in
solid > melting > boiling > gas > condensing > liquid > freezing
