Atomic Structure / Iostopes Flashcards
Atomic structure
An atom is the smallest uncharged particles that can take place in a chemical reaction. An atom is made up of even smalller particles which are called subatomic structures
At the centre of the atom is a tiny nucleus
The nucleus contain two Ypres of subatomic particles called protons and neutrons
Around the outside of the atom is a subatomic called electrons
The electrons are arranged in electrons shell also called energy level.
In a neutral the number of the electrons is equal to the protons .
Electron shell
In one model the electrons move at high speed at certain distance from the nucleus in vague regions of space that have the shape of a sphere.
The first shell is neared the nucleus. It holds a maximum of two electrons.
The second shell is further away from the nucleus.it holds maximum of eight electrons.
The third shell is even further away it starts filling up when the second shell has eight electrons
What is an Isotopes
isotopes are atom with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons.
Isotopes of the same element have the same chemical properties but may have different physical properties.
