Diffusion Flashcards
What is Diffusion?
A process which substances can enter and leave cells.
Where particles move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What do we want diffuse into cells?
Oxygen.
What do we want to diffuse out of cells?
Carbon Dioxide.
What factors affect diffusion?
Concentration Gradient, Membrane Surface Area and Temperature.
What is Concentration Gradient?
Something that is linked to the difference in concentration between two areas which speeds up the rate of diffusion.
What is Membrane Surface Area?
Something that is linked to the difference in concentration between two areas which speeds up the rate of diffusion.
How does Temperature affect the rate of diffusion?
The higher the temperature, the faster rate of diffusion.
