Differentiation and Function of CD4+ cells Flashcards
What are B7( CD80/CD86) proteins?
Co-stimulatory molecules expressed on professional APCs.
What three components are needed to activate a T cell?
1) TCR
2) CD4 or CD8
3) CD3 proteins
T cell proliferation is driven by what cytokine?
IL-2.
What is the commonality between Th1, Th2, Th17 cells?
All are CD4 positive helper cells.
What two cytokines are produced my dendritic cells and macrophages that lead to activation of transcription factors T-bet, STAT1, STAT4 in Th1 differentiation?
IL-12 produced by DCs and Macrophages and IFN-gamma produced by NK cells.
What are nontraditional T cells?
These T cells have gamma-delta TCRs and CD3. Abundant in the intestine, uterus, and tongue. Functions as first line of defense, regulatory cell, bridging between innate and adaptive responses.
What are Natural Killer T (NKT) cells?
Recognize self and foreign lipids and glycolipids. When activated, they will produce large quantities of IFN-gamma, IL-4, and GM-CSF. Deficiency of of NKT leads to autoimmunity, cancers, asthma.
What is the role of IL-5?
Activation of eosinophils.
