B cell activation and Ab production (2) Flashcards
What are the bcl-2 family of proteins responsible for?
Anti-apoptotic signals.
Isotype switching primarily occurs where and is driven by what cells?
Occurs in germinal centers and is driven by Tfh cells.
Short-lived plasma cells are generated during what response?
T-independent response.
Long-lived plasma cells are generated during what response?
T-dependent response. Generated by signals from the BCR and IL-21.
What is a conjugate vaccine?
Created by attaching a poor antigen, covalently, to a carrier protein. The antigen must activate helper T cells in order for the vaccination to render an immune response.
The FCgammaRIIB receptor activates what intracellular protein? What does this intracellular protein do? What occurs in mice with a KO of the FCgammaRIIB receptor?
Activates the SHIP protein. SHIP will convert PIP3-> PIP2 and thus block B cell receptor signaling. KO mice exhibit uncontrolled Ab production.
