Working class children can be materially deprived due to their position in a capitalist society e.g. not being able to afford books or school trips.
What does Cultural deprivation say?
Working-class culture and parenting isn’t aimed at educational success as they may not have the knowledge and values that help achievement.
How does elaborated code effect working class individuals?
Exams are written in elaborated code and to achieve higher marks they are expected to answer in elaborated code. However working class individuals use the restricted code.
Why do middle-class have more educational benefits?
Have a disposable income so can spend more money on developing their education.

Middle class having money that allows them to go on educational trips outside of school like to museums and art galleries.

Middle class have a better understanding of the education system and how it works which will allow them to enter a higher level of education.
How do girls get positive role models in the classroom?
Teaching has been feminized and woman are more likely to be classroom teachers.

They have capital (Educational, Economic and cultural).
Why may working class parents not be able to support their children?
May have issues with their own literacy so won’t be able to support or correct their children’s.

1) Language can be a barrier for children from immigrant families.
2) Cultural deprivation.

What is Bedroom Subculture?
The idea that girls are more likely to socialize with their friends in their bedrooms taking part in studying where as boys are more likely to socialize outside of the home doing something like playing football.

Why is the school curriculum a reason for differential achievement?
It is ethnocentric meaning it fits the mainstream white middle-class better than other ethnicites.
