Different Types Of Altitudes Flashcards
What is the pressure altitude ?
The number the altimeter reads when we set 29.92 into the window kollmans window.
29.92 inches of mercury and a temperature of 15 degrees C (59F) gives you a standard day.
What is standard pressure in mercury
Standard pressure is 29.92 inches of mercury
What is Indicated altitude ?
What your reading on the altimeter when it is set to the local barometric pressure at mean sea level
MSL what is that ?
Mean Sea level , when you are setting your altimeter to field elevation
- The height of an object in relation to sea level.
The altimeter setting is the value to which the barometric presssure scale of the altimeter is set, so the altimeter indicates true altitude at field elevation.
True altitude what does that mean ?
True altitude is distance above mean sea level.
True Blue SEA
At Sea level on a standard day, indicated altitude is the same as True altitude ? True or False ?
True
When you are at Sea level and the atmospheric pressure is 29.92 and the temperature is 15 C or 59 F it is called a standard day. T/ F
True.
AGL - what does that mean ?
Above Ground level.
Top bold number and bottom number in parathesis of a man made object
Top number “ the height your going to hit it “ - the altitude of an object in relation to MSL
Bottom (###) how far you’re going to fall before you hit the ground . - Height of an object in relation to AGL
What altimeter change will happen if pressure changes from 29.15 to 29.85 what would happen if we don’t reset the altimeter ?
.7 change x 1000 = 700 ft
We will be flying 700 ft higher than the altimeter reads.
If a pilot changes the altinert setting from 3011 to 29.96 what is the approximate change in indication?
30.11 -29.96 = 0.15 icnches
.15x1000= 150 ft.
If we do not reset the altimeter , we would be flying 150 ft lower than the altimeter reads.
Density altitude
Pressure altitude corrected for nonstandard temperature
High hot humid , we have a problem.
Higher than standard pressure , hot temperatures , high humidity, and high field elevation.
Density altitude is where the aircraft feels it is at .
