Different Stages Of Developmemt(cylones) Flashcards
Initial stage
-warm moist subtropical air meets cold dry air at polar front
-no movement across polar front
-air masses don’t mix
-air masses move parallel in opposite directions
Development stage
-A disturbance occurs on the polar front cause of:
Friction between two air masses
Differences between land and sea temp
-decrease in local air pressure
-these disturbances lead to local low pressure(warm air that rises )
Mature /warm sector stage
-Cold air moves in northern direction(cold front develops )
-warm air pushed in S direction(warm front Develops)
-Winds blow clockwise into low pressure(S hemisphere)
-warm air rises and air masses still separated by front
-Definate warm sector depression occurs
-rainfall occurs along cold front where warm air is forced to rise due to top steep slope of cold front
Occluded stage
-warm air narrows as development continues
-cold front moved faster than warm front
-cold front starts to overtake the warm front ,first in Low pressure centre and then outwards
-cold air wedges under warm air and isolates warm air completely from surface
Dissipating stage
-Cold air completely isolated warm air from the ground
-upper level wind breaks apart cloud cover
-rainfall decreases and eventually stops
