Different perspectives Flashcards
Dawkins (The Blind Watchmaker)
If animals did not function perfectly, they wold have died off because of natural selection, giving the illusion of design
Tennant: anthropic principle.
The world seems specifically designed to support human life. It couldn’t just be down to chance.
1) The things needed to sustain life are provided (Goldilocks theory.)
2) The world allows itself to be discovered by humans.
3) Through evolution and natural selection, human life has been developed.
Tennant: aesthetic principle.
Without a creator, people would not be able to see beauty in the world. ‘Saturated with beauty.’ This can not be explained by evolution.
St Paul’s letter to the Romans.
God must have created everything, as his design is visible in nature. Based on a posteriori knowledge.
