Different parts of the nervous system Flashcards
What does the central nervous system consist of?
The brain and spinal cord
What are the main things the central nervous system is concerned with?
The actions and reactions of the body, information received through senses and coordinating major functions scubas sleeping, eating and walking and more complex functions such as memory thinking and attention
What does the main amount of interactions within the body involve?
The brain and the remainder travel through the spinal column
What does the peripheral nervous system consist of?
It contains the automatic nervous system and the somatic nervous system, and includes the nerves from the sense organs and the voluntary muscles
What is the main role of the somatic nervous system?
It is involved in voluntary actions, such as picking something up, that requires you to decide to use the muscles.
How does the process of the SNS work/include?
It involves impulses being sent from the brain down the spine to the appropriate muscle group and includes all of the nerves which deal with sensory input and conveying at sensory input to the CNS
What is the role of the ANS?
It mainly deals with the controls systems. It is self-regulating and produces effects either through direct neural stimulation or by releasing hormones from the endocrine glands. It controls almost all the major organs except from the brain
What are some processes the ANS is involved in?
Sweating, control of the bowels and heart rate
What level of conciocness do most of the ANS processes happen?
Mostly below the level of consciousness, but some are controllable form the cerebral cortex
What are the two systems the ANS consists of?
The sympathetic system and the parasympathetic system
What does the sympathetic system control?
When in danger it makes adjustments in the body for it to react optimally to it
What does the parasympathetic system do?
The is used in body processes when there is no apparent danger and enhances the actions of the body involve with feeding, digestion and safe periods aiming to build u resources for dangerous times
What do these systems mainly govern to work?
They mainly govern the body’s motivations e.g telling you when hungry/full
