- Postop ileus, GI or diagnostic procedures

- Water, simple sugar & electrolytes

- Pts unable to chew or swallow hard food: poor dentition, esophageal issues, step up from liquid
- Can meet all nutritional requirements

Sodium restricted
A
- HTN, HF, CLD, CKD, transplant
- No added salt or 2 g restriction
- Approx 2.3 g sodium per day
- No added salt

Fat restricted
A
- Fat malabsorption syndromes (pancreatitis), hypelipidema, CVD
- 40-60 g fat per day
- Cardiac diet

High fiber
A
- 21-38 g/d
- Mgmt of GI disorders- constipation & diverticulosis

A
- Compensation for diuretics
- 4.5-7 g/d

- General patient without nutrition issues
- Heart healthy, low in fat, sodium, fiber

A
- Poor dentition or difficulty chewing
- Dysphagia-advanced mechanically altered or pureed.
- Thickened liquids- necatar or honey thick
