Simple : energy for immediate use, no nutrients.
Example : sugar,glucose
Complex : Easily stored in body, rapid use by the muscles
Example : bread,pasta,rice
Fats
Used for energy but only when carbohydrates run low
Energy is released slowly
Too much can increase weight gain
Example : oil, oily fish, nuts
Proteins
Tissue growth
Body building blocks
Example : meat,fish,nuts
Minerals
Bone growth/strength
Need small amounts
Example : milk, fruit, broccoli
Vitamins
Helps vision
Helps immune system
Need small amounts
Example : dairy, broccoli, eggs
Water
Keeps us hydrated
Need it to stay healthy
Fibre
Keeps bowel healthy
Lowers cholesterol
Example : nuts, wholemeal, vegetables
