A balanced diet needs two things:
1) It needs to provide energy
2) It needs to have the right balance of foods across food groups too
What do carbohydrates provide?
They’re needed to release energy
What do fats provide?
They’re needed to release energy and help keep warm
What do proteins provide?
They aid growth, cell repair and cell replacement
What does fibre provide?
It aids the digestive system
What do vitamins and minerals provide?
They help keep skin, bones, blood and other stuff healthy
Why do people have different energy needs?
due to their person
Resting Metabolic Rate :
- (muscle needs more energy to fatty tissue; higher muscle proportion - high metabolic rate)
- Physically bigger people have high metabolic rate to small: bigger people need more energy
- Men’s are generally higher than women’s due to more muscle
- Regular exercise builds muscle and boosts metabolic rate.
Why do people have different energy needs?
due to their actions
-People who have active jobs- more energy
(this affects the amount of energy needed in your diet)
-Exercise raises the amount of energy needed also
