What are RDA’s (recommended dietary allowances) used for?
They have been used to plan and assess the adequacy of food intake
What are RDA;s based on?

RDA’s include recommendations for energy, protein and vitamins and minerals
What are Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI’s) based on?
DRI’s are based on RDA’s but they aim to decrease the risk of chronic diseases such as osteoporosis and certain cancers through nutrition
What are DRI’s?
DRI’s are estimates of nutrients that are used to plan and assess diets for healthy individuals
What do DRI’s tell you?
DRI’s tell you how much of each nutrient to consume in order to prevent deficiency diseases
