Diencephalon Flashcards

1
Q

Thalamus

A

80% of diencephalon.

  • relay center for incoming sensory messages
  • all afferent impulses EXCEPT olfactory converge at thalamus. The thalamus nuclei then organizes, amplifying or scales down signals

Q

Hypothalamus

A

inferior to thalamus. Between optic chiasm and posterior border of the mamillary bodies.
pituitary gland
main visceral control center of body

Q

Hypothalamus functions

A
  • endocrine
  • autonomic nervous system
  • body temperature
  • hunger/thirst
  • feeding (initiating= lateral, inhibiting = ventromedial)
  • emotion- pleasure, sex, rage
  • motivation
  • memory( mamillary)
