Q

Thalamus

A
  • largest portion
  • relay station where info is first processed
  • consciousness, alertness, and attention

Q

Hypothalamus - 2

A
  • optic chiasm (part of nerve containing visual info)
  • mammilary body (lies below optic chiasm)
  • tuber cinerium
  • primary hypothalamus function is processing visceral information
  • damage leads to anorexia, hyperphagia
  • controls endocrine system
  • regulates pituitary gland
  • controls cells in adenohypophysis endocrine cells, and influences hormone releasal
  • controls ANS - posterior portion of hypothalamus controls sympathetic nervous system

Q

Pituitary gland

A
  • hypophysis
  • swelling at base of hypothalamus
  • sits in body cavity called sella turcica
  • covered by fluid called sellar diaphragm
  • large anterior lobe called adenohypophasis
